What does Continuous Improvement look like in a classroom?

In order to prepare students to compete in a global marketplace when they graduate from HEB ISD, the District uses Continuous Improvement to be more efficient and effective when providing a quality education for all students. The HEB ISD approach is one that corporations, hospitals, and other business groups have used for many years in order to improve results. Parents and community partners can rest assured that students in this District are learning skills that will serve them well in a classroom, a meeting room, or a board room.

Through the CI model, students keep their own data folders to monitor their personal progress. They know what the classroom expectations are in order for them to be successful, and they can look ahead to set personal goals from one grade to the next, year after year. Students can use this experience to set long-term education and career goals.

  • Students help create a mission statement and set class goals.
  • Students track their progress using charts to meet their own personal goals. Watch video(watch video)
  • Teachers use data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction.
  • Classroom charts are displayed in rooms and in halls.
  • Students keep personal data folders with their own information.

“What has happened in the last decade with global competition is very sobering. We are preparing our children for a very competitive future, using Continuous Improvement as a tool in every classroom. This will set us apart from other districts and give our students the resources they need to make wise choices in school and beyond.”

Gene Buinger, Superintendent of Schools
