Secondary Orchestra

In 2001, the Board of Trustees began Suzuki Strings in order to “grow” its own K-12 orchestra program. The secondary orchestra began at Central Junior High during the 2005-2006 school year, winning sweepstakes awards after just a few months. Today, the young orchestra program continues to receive awards, with many students qualifying for All-Region Orchestra. In 2008, the orchestra program will expand to the high school level at L.D. Bell High School.

Students in secondary orchestra hone the skills they learned in Suzuki Strings or in private lessons. HEB ISD has a rich tradition of producing nationally recognized music programs, and orchestra students will help the tradition continue.

In February 2007, HEB ISD was named to the “Best 100 Communitiesfor Music Education,” by the American Music Conference. Only 12 Texas school districts made this prestigious list, proving once again that HEB ISD gives students an “edge” over their peers in Texas or any other state.
