LD Bell Project to Help Refugees
LD Bell High School Students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program are hosting a special free event to help refugees in Afghanistan.
The Kite Runner Project will be a one-day event in the front circle drive of LD Bell High School in Hurst, 10:00 a.m. -- 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14. Activities will include bake sale, arts and crafts, silent auction, fresh grilled hot dogs and other refreshments, face painting, balloon animals, and more.
The goal is to raise money for the Khaled Hosseini (author of the book, "Kite Runner") Foundation. Hosseini's nonprofit foundation provides humanitarian assistance to refugee families in Afghanistan. Assistance may be shelters for refugees and economic and education opportunities and healthcare for women and children.
The class goal is to raise $1,500, which is the cost of building a shelter for at least eight people.
