Board Appoints Director & Campus Principals for 2012-2013


The Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD Board of Trustees has made three new appointments for next school year. They have appointed Rene Riek as Director of Special Education, Gina Mayfield as Principal of Harrison Lane Elementary School, and Darla Clark as Principal of Shady Oaks Elementary School.

The Board named Rene Riek the Director of Special Education at the May 22 board meeting. Riek has served as interim director this spring. She was the Assistant Principal of North Euless Elementary School this school year until she became Interim Director. Her previous positions in HEB ISD include Coordinator of Special Education, Educational Diagnostician, and Special Education teacher. Before beginning her career in HEB ISD, Riek taught in Birdville ISD and Cedar Hill ISD. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, master's degree from the University of North Texas, and principal's certification from the University of Texas at Arlington.

The Board appointed Gina Mayfield as Principal of Harrison Lane Elementary School at the April 30 meeting, to fill the vacancy created when current Principal Donna Stevens announced her retirement. Mayfield is currently Principal of Shady Oaks Elementary School, a position she has held since 2008. Before her current position she was Assistant Principal at Midway Park Elementary School, a math facilitator, and a Spring Garden teacher for 16 years. Mayfield has a master's degree from the University of North Texas and a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University. She is a product of HEB ISD schools, beginning at South Hurst Elementary School and graduating from Trinity High School.

Darla Clark is currently Assistant Principal at Stonegate Elementary School. The Board of Trustees appointed Clark to fill Mayfield's position at Shady Oaks Elementary School at their May 15 board meeting. Clark has been at Stonegate Elementary School since 2008. She was a teacher in HEB ISD from 1989 -- 2008 at Shady Oaks Elementary School, Hurst Hills Elementary School, and Bellaire Elementary School. She has a master's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor's degree from Texas Wesleyan University. Clark is also product of HEB ISD schools, attending Donna Park Elementary School, Hurst Junior High School, and graduating from LD Bell High School.
