Convocation 2012 Showcases Local Talent

The 2012 Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD Convocation excited the back-to-school crowd with words of wisdom and encouragement, upbeat student performances, and grants from the HEB ISD Education Foundation.

Dr. Faye Beaulieu, president of the HEB ISD Board of Trustees, reminded everyone the power of wonder and Alicia McGlinchey, president of the HEB ISD Education Foundation, presented the innovative teaching grants to campus recipients. Dr. Gene Buinger, superintendent of schools, challenged everyone to excel even when there are so many unknown factors with state accountability.

The District Teachers of the Year usually address the convocation crowd. This year's winners are Cheri Gibson and Meaghan Butts. While both Teachers of the Year had personal conflicts that kept them from attending convocation, Elementary Teacher of the Year Meaghan Butts recorded a video full of compassion and empathy for new teachers.

Student performances included the Elementary Honor Choir, LD Bell High School Orchestra, and Trinity High School Jazz Band. These talented students demonstrated to the eager audience the result of years of dedication on the part of our fine arts teachers.
