Al Jazeera Visits Central Junior High
Abderahim Foukara, the Washington and New York bureau chief for the Al Jazeera television network, visited Tamara Haddad's Arabic language class at Central Junior High School as part of his visit to the area. Students presented information about Morocco's culture, customs, food, and tourism. They also sampled hot tea using a traditional tea set that families in Morocco would use in their homes. Foukara visited the school before speaking to the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. Foukara visited the school with Dr. Ahmed Yanouri, who works with the World Affairs Council. Yanouri, who is originally from Morocco, organized a trip to Morocco last summer for North Texas teachers, which included Haddad. Yanouri was inducted into the DFW International Hall of Fame which recognizes prominent North Texas individuals and organizations that have significantly impacted our communities. The Dallas Morning News also visited Haddad's classroom and ran an article about the Arabic language program.
