One of Dr. Gene Buinger's last acts as Superintendent before retiring was to present awards to teachers and administrators at LD Bell High School and Trinity High School. He presented the Global Excellence Awards and Lone Star Awards for advanced academics. Teachers received the Global Excellence Award for having International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement scores that meet or exceed the world average. Teachers who received the award last year and this year received a plate dated 2012 to place on the plaque they received last year. Teachers who were first time recipients were given a new plaque to display outside their classroom door. Dr. Buinger presented Lone Star Awards for subject areas and departments to the principal and IB coordinator for each high school.
