High School Swim Teams Competing at Regionals This Weekend
After strong finishes at the District 7-5A competition, 35 students from the L.D. Bell and Trinity High School swim teams are competing at the regional meet today and tomorrow. At the district meet, the teams met and received an inspirational message from local sports reporter Dale Hansen.
On January 24th, the LD Bell Swim Team and Trinity Swim Team competed in the 2014 District 7-5A Swimming Championship, at the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District Swim Center.
The Trinity Trojan Swim Team placed 3rd overall, and the boys' and girls' teams each took home 3rd place trophies. The following swimmers qualified for the All District Team and will compete at the Regional Meet on February 7-8: Anna Peoples, Ashley Torres, Ashton Nelson, Austin Hilliard, Chase Edwards, Deneen Carter, Emily Schumann, Erick Espinosa, Jake Meixner, Kai Donner, Kenzie Crews, Kevin Lavery, Marisa Pouiphanvongxay, Matthew Vaca, Morgan Gregory, Ricky Kaloust, Riley Buhrow, Robyn Twomey, and Sarah Green.
The Blue Raider Swim Team placed 4th overall, and the boys' and girls' teams each earned 4th place at the championship meet. From this meet, 16 LD Bell swimmers qualified for the All District Team and will compete at the Regional Meet. Before the swimmers competed at the district championship meet, WFAA Sports Anchor Dale Hansen spoke to both teams about his high school years and how to become an ultimate winner. He encouraged the swimmers to take advantage of every moment they can during their high school years. Mr. Hansen said "While I do believe in winning, I do accept losing. The only way you ultimately fail is if you don't compete with enthusiasm. You compete with enthusiasm every single moment, of every single day. You dedicate yourself to making the people around you better, you will be amazed at how many individual honors and awards will come your way." The captains from each team presented Mr. Hansen with a district swim team shirt for their school. (Trinity photo)
Both teams are coached by Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District Swim Coach Jesse Barton. This season the teams participated in swim meets throughout the DFW area beginning in October. The regular season ended with the district championship meet, and those who qualified for the regional swim meet will compete on February 7-8 at Keller Independent School District Natatorium in the Region 2-5A Championship. Any qualifiers from this meet will go on to the state championship in Austin.
