L.D. Bell Sophomore Victoria Gonzales won first place in the 2017 Fort Worth Optimist Club Essay Contest. Tori's essay, titled "Life is Like a Rose," was the top pick out of 425 essays received, "comprised mostly of juniors and seniors from a variety of schools in the greater Fort Worth area," said Optimist Club Essay Chairman Rodney Patterson. The winning entry was the only essay submitted by an L.D. Bell student. At the local level, Tori's essay earned her a $1,000 scholarship. Moving forward, Tori is eligible to enter her essay at the district level where she has the potential to win an additional scholarship of $2,500.
