I am so disturbed when I hear a child – or any human being – just "losing it," upset, terribly distraught. It brings the reality of the world we live in right into my little elementary on Cummings in Bedford. Some children carry heavy burdens that they were never meant to know in this life.
I was brought to tears as I slipped back into my classroom today when I found Mr. Johnson (head custodian) and Mrs. Moore (AP) gently talking with such a student in the hallway. My help was not needed, but I listened in. They were telling him that they mess up, too, and that everyone makes mistakes. They were coaxing the student to get up from the floor and move on with his day. I am blessed to work with people who are human, who feel, who take time to understand that we are frail and we need each other. "You are safe and you are fine," Mrs. Moore told him. Thank you, Mrs. Moore and Mr. Johnson, for making Spring Garden a safe place even on the days when we just "mess up."
