Students in Dr. Choate's Principles of Health Science classes at Buinger CTE Academy taught each other essential life skills lessons. The students were divided into groups, and each group had to brainstorm, learn, and then teach their classmates the newly learned task. The student-led lessons included how to tie a neck tie, change a flat tire, check your car oil, fill out a 1040EZ tax form, sew a button onto clothing, count back change, calculate a tip at a restaurant, apply and interview for a job, and write in cursive.
The students also learned how to incorporate a 45-60 minute exercise regimen into each day of a family's life. The fun, affordable, and healthy for all ages activities included dizzy whiffle ball, kickball, and interval station workouts for rainy days. Dr. Choate's students were able to recognize and understand the importance of not only learning and using these lessons for their own personal well-being, but how their newfound knowledge will be beneficial for their future patients as medical professionals.
