Shady Oaks and Lakewood elementary schools have earned the highest number of Gold Performance Acknowledgments (GPA) that the Texas Education Agency can award to an elementary campus. The GPA awards recognize districts and campuses for high academic performance on various indicators, such as commended performance on Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, student attendance, college admissions tests, and AP/IB examinations.

There are seven categories for which elementary schools can be honored, and Shady Oaks and Lakewood were recognized in all seven: attendance, commended reading, commended math, commended writing, commended science, continued improvement in reading, as well as in math.

Stonegate and River Trails elementary schools achieved GPA awards in six of the seven categories.

Only one other school in Tarrant County (Forth Worth ISD), met all seven academic requirements.

“Receiving Gold Performance Acknowledgments is very difficult to do, and to make this achievement in all seven areas is exceptional,” Dr. Buinger, superintendent of schools, said. “This rare achievement speaks to the academic ‘edge’ that we provide our students, beginning in the elementary grades, so that they are prepared to live and work in a global economy when they graduate from HEB ISD.”
