Executive Director Will Raise Foundation's Profile in Community

David B. Medina has been elected as the first Executive Director of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Education Foundation. Medina’s responsibilities will include serving as the official representative of the Foundation in the community, developing and coordinating grant-writing efforts, raising funds, and coordinating events.

Jeanine Benanati, Chair of the Board of Directors, said the Foundation decided to hire an executive director to increase community awareness of the organization, which was formed in 1995.

“We are pleased to have David as our executive director. He knows the community and is familiar with the needs of education, Benenati said.

The Foundation has four goals: encouraging all students to work to their highest potential; rewarding teachers for innovative efforts and exemplary teaching; building public awareness and confidence in our schools; involving the community in assuring a quality education for the leaders and workers of tomorrow.

Each year, the Foundation awards $30,000 in Innovative Teaching Grants across the district. They also recognize high school seniors and mentor teachers at the Awards of Excellence dinner.

Medina has served on the Board of Directors of the Foundation and is the former co-owner of Forest Ridge Funeral Home. Active in the community, he is a member of the HEB Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and has been a member of many other community boards, including ARTSNET and the American Heart Association.

He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas Allied Health Science Center at Dallas. He is currently working on his doctorate.
