Beginning with the End in Mind, STAAR aims
for College and Career Readiness...

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, will replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) program beginning in spring 2012.

  • STAAR tests will be more rigorous than the TAKS test
  • STAAR will measure college readiness
  • STAAR covers grades 3 - 11
  • STAAR EOC includes 12 end-of-course assessments for high school level courses

The STAAR program at grades 3–8 will assess the same grades and subjects as are assessed on TAKS. For high school, general subject-area TAKS tests will be replaced with twelve STAAR end-of-course (EOC) assessments.

HEB ISD is committed to keeping its students and families informed of the changes introduced by the new STAAR tests and end-of-course assessments. Adjustments are expected from state officials as the Texas Education Agency continues to clarify questions and concerns regarding STAAR during its initial year of implementation. Please explore this website to gain a better understanding of STAAR and return often as updates will be placed on this page as they become available.
