  • Did you receive a text message with a link to this page?

That means HEB ISD is aware of a possible situation at your school, and will update this page soon with more details.

  • Text message sent to OTE parents: (12:25pm 10/5) Oakwood Terrace Elementary has been placed on lockdown. Police department is investigating a potential threat outside the school. More info: www.hebisd.edu/now

Additional Information at 12:35pm: What is a "Lockdown"? Lockdown means that all students and staff take a safe position inside the nearest classroom or similar space. At HEB ISD schools, exterior and interior doors are always locked, but staff may double-check their doors when a lockdown is initiated to ensure they are completely closed.

    Additional Information at 12:39pm:

All students and staff are safe at Oakwood Terrace Elementary. The school is now transitioning from Lockdown to "Secure". Secure (formerly known as "Lockout") means that no one is allowed in or out of the building, but school continues as usual inside the building.

In an abundance of caution, Euless Police presence is continuing at the school while the police investigation continues.

    Additional Information at 12:48pm:

In an abundance of caution, South Euless Elementary was also place on "Secure". South Euless Elementary's "Secure" status has now been lifted. As always, exterior doors will remain locked at South Euless Elementary.

    Additional information at 2:45pm:

To All Oakwood Terrace Elementary Parents & Families:

Earlier today, we let you know that Oakwood Terrace Elementary is in “Secure” status while the Euless Police Department investigates a potential threat. All students and staff are safe.

Oakwood Terrace Elementary will still be “Secure” at dismissal time, so we are working with the Euless Police to safely adjust our dismissal process.

Please allow extra time for safe dismissal today:

    • Buses will run normally, but may have small delays.
    • If you plan to drive or walk to the school to pick-up your student, please follow directions from Euless Police.
    • If your student would normally walk home on their own, he or she will be held safely at the school until a parent or guardian can pick them up, or until Euless Police clear us to dismiss the students to walk home alone.

Extended Day Academy is planned to continue as usual.

    Additional Information at 3:54pm:

To All Oakwood Terrace Elementary Parents & Families:

We would like to share an update on Oakwood Terrace Elementary dismissal today:

    • All bus riders have left the school on their buses.
    • We are currently releasing students to parents and guardians who are at the school.
    • Once all parents at the school have picked up their student, students who normally walk home will be released. Euless Police Department will continue to have a strong presence in the area while these students walk home.

  • What happens now?

Right now, school administrators are working to ensure safety of students & staff at your school.

At the same time, HEB ISD staff are gathering accurate information to update this page, to keep parents informed.

You do not need to call or visit the school unless we post that request on this page. We will post specific instructions if we ever need parents to pick up students.

    How updates will be posted

You will have to reload this page to see updates:

Within a few minutes, we will post the same message that you received via text.

Next, we will post additional information about our normal process for this type of situation. (In HEB ISD, every school has customized safety plans for several types of situations. These safety plans are developed in partnership with local first responders, are practiced by school staff and students, and are updated over time according to national best practices.)

As details are confirmed or we need to give instructions to parents, we will continue to update this page.

When the situation is resolved, we'll post one final update and leave the information in place for about a day, then clear the page to prepare for any future situation.
