Newcomer Information
Bilingual Progam / El Programa Bilingüe
Bilingual Programs are available to Spanish-speaking students grades PK-6 at Bellaire, Oakwood Terrace and Shady Oaks. This program is structured so that students learn English and master the state required TEKS and higher order thinking skills in all subjects. At the same time, students have the enriched benefit of maintaining their first language and will graduate from elementary school being able to speak, read, and write equally well in both English and Spanish.
Los Programas Bilingües están disponibles para los estudiantes de habla Hispana en los grados PK-6 en Bellaire, Oakwood Terrace y Shady Oaks. Este programa está estructurado de manera que los estudiantes puedan aprender Inglés y tomar exitosamente la prueba requerida por el estado (TEKS), así como también desarrollar destrezas de asimilación en todas las materias. Simultáneamente, los estudiantes tienen el beneficio de enriquecimiento al poder mantener su primer idioma, y graduarse de escuela primaria pudiendo hablar, leer, y escribir en Inglés y Español apropiadamente.
English as a Second Language (ESL) / Inglés como Segundo Idioma (ESL)
English as a Second Language (ESL) services are available for all students PK-12. Teachers trained and certified in second language acquisition theory, methodology, and strategies teach these classes. This program is designed so students develop proficiency in the comprehension of the English language. Students also receive instruction in the content areas in order to master the state required TEKS and higher order thinking skills.
Los servicios del programa de Inglés como Segundo Idioma (ESL) están disponibles para todos los estudiantes entre PK-12. Maestras especializadas y certificadas en la teoría, metodología, y estrategias para adquirir un segundo idioma, enseñan las clases bajo este programa. El mismo está diseñado para que los estudiantes puedan desarrollar facilidad del manejo en la comprensión del Inglés. Los estudiantes también reciben enseñanza en las areas regulares para que de esta manera puedan sobresalir en el examen TEKS y otras destrezas de asimilación.
