Medical Leave

Medical leave is a type of leave granted to employees who are unable to work for medical reasons. Here's some general information about medical leave:

  1. Eligibility for medical leave typically depends on factors such as the HEB ISD policies, the duration of employment, and local labor laws. HEB ISD requires documentation from a healthcare provider to verify the need for medical leave.
  2. Duration of the medical leave can vary depending on the nature of the illness or injury, as well as HEB ISD policies and applicable laws. It can range from a few days to several weeks or months.
  3. Documentation to support the need for medical leave. This includes a doctor's note or medical certificate detailing the diagnosis, the expected duration of the leave, and any restrictions or accommodations needed upon returning to work.
  4. Notification is required as soon as possible for unforeseen circumstances. This allows your campus or department to make necessary arrangements for workload distribution and coverage during your absence.
  5. Medical Release - Upon returning to work, employees are required to provide a doctor's note releasing them to full duty. If restrictions apply, please contact the Benefits office to review the restrictions based on your job duties.
  6. Confidentiality - We are required to maintain the confidentiality of medical information shared by employees during the medical leave process. This includes safeguarding medical records and only sharing information on a need-to-know basis.

It is important to consult the HEB ISD employee handbook for specific policies and procedures related to medical leave. You may also review the FMLA Employee Rights poster from the U.S. Department of Labor.
