SMART Tag - Information for Families
Elementary Bus Riders – Keep your SMART Tag for August
Please keep your student’s SMART Tag over the summer. Returning elementary students will use their same SMART Tags next school year when riding their school bus.
If your child loses their SMART Tag over the summer, you will need to request a replacement from your home campus. The first replacement is free, and any additional replacements may come with a fee.
HEB ISD uses the SMART Tag system, a safety tool that allows monitoring of your student’s bus rides:
- SMART Tag cards are distributed to student bus riders at the beginning of the school year. Students are expected to have their SMART Tag for every ride to or from school on an HEB ISD bus.
- The Tag will be read by a SMART Tag scanner as students board their bus, immediately checking that each student is on the correct bus. The student’s Tag will be scanned again when students exit the bus, verifying that each student is at the correct school or bus stop.
- Throughout this process, the system allows parents or guardians to get notified of their student’s bus travel using the SMART Tag app.
- The SMART Tag cards do not store any student data, and cannot track students in other locations nor transmit information other than to their compatible scanners.
To learn more or to set up the smartphone app, please review the information below from SMART Tag. For assistance, please contact the HEB ISD Transportation department at 817-399-2441.
Phone App for Parents
Parents and legal guardians can register an account on the district’s SMART Tag Phone App to monitor whether their child is on the bus as well as the bus’s real-time location.
