The mission of the HEB ISD Attendance Department is to partner with students, families, schools, and the community to foster a culture where every day counts. Through education, early intervention, and supportive services, we work to improve attendance, reduce chronic absenteeism and truancy, and help every student remain engaged in learning.

Compulsory Attendance Laws
Absences/Attendance
Regular school attendance is essential. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s education. The student and parent should avoid unnecessary absences.
Two important state laws—one dealing with compulsory attendance and the other with how attendance affects the award of a student’s final grade or course credit—are discussed below.
Philosophy
The philosophy of HEB ISD and the State of Texas emphasizes that regular student attendance is crucial for enhancing academic achievement and success. Developing habits of punctuality, self-discipline, and responsibility is expected from all students. It is vital to establish effective communication and cooperation between home and school. Parents and guardians are encouraged to reach out to the school if they have any questions regarding their child’s attendance or punctuality. School attendance is mandated by state law.
