Students need parents and staff to remain calm in stressful situations.
We will contact parents/guardians if students need to be picked up. We will not leave students unattended.
Oakwood Terrace Elementary contact information
Please be patient. Student safety is the top priority. We will answer phone calls or bring your child to the front office when we can do so safely.
Safety Procedures
All HEB ISD schools have response plans and resources in place for weather events, fire, accidents, intruders, and other threats to student safety. The plans are developed in line with up-to-date national best practices, are school-specific, and are made in collaboration with local fire and police departments. Students, teachers, staff, and administration practice emergency procedures multiple times throughout each school year. For more information, visit the HEB ISD Safety & Security webpage.
Note: In rare and extreme conditions, such as tornado activity near the school, the principal may temporarily deem it unsafe to remove students from shelter. When this happens, students will be allowed to leave with parents once the danger has passed.
Emergency Drills during COVID-19

HEB ISD Safety Drill Expectations (English)
Dear Parent(s):
In HEB ISD, the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. With our ongoing pandemic situation, our normal procedure of practicing emergency situations has changed. In order to stay on top of safety needs and best practices, HEB ISD has instituted a different means of preparing our students and staff in the event of an emergency.
This year, campuses will still conduct the normal drills and scenarios as years past. However, in order to maintain as much social distance as possible and mitigate the spread of COVID-19, these drills will look a little different. In HEB ISD, we follow the Standard Response Protocol, or SRP. The SRP includes drills called Secure, Lockdown, Shelter, Evacuate and Hold In Classroom. For each of these protocols, campus teachers will show the students a video that explains the drill and purpose before the students go through it.
For the Shelter and Evacuate scenarios, the campus will schedule grade levels and specific classes to walk through the scenario one class at a time so all students understand the expectation. This will teach the students where to exit the building in the event of an Evacuation, or where they will need to take cover for Shelter.
For Lockdown, Secure and Hold in Classroom, your student’s teacher will show the video to the students and walk through what to do in the event of a situation, however the students will not move to their locations for these drills right now. If the pandemic situation improves to allow us to conduct these drills as we normally would, we will reevaluate at that time.
If you have any questions regarding our plan for safety and training during our current situation, please contact me or email safety@hebisd.edu.
We appreciate your help and understanding in keeping our campus as safe as possible.
Sincerely,
Dr. Anmarie Garcia

Expectativas Sobre Los Simulacros De HEB ISD (Español)
Queridos Padres,
Sinceramente,
Dra. Anmarie Garcia
