Mission:

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Special Olympics sports offered through our district include:

  • Bowling
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Athletics (track & field)

Students must be at least 8 years of age to compete in individual skills or team sports. They may begin attending practices at age 6.

Special Olympics Registration Process

Registration Deadline for 2018-2019 School Year is Friday, August 24, 2018.

  1. Print Special Olympic registration form from below, or contact Brittany Wallace by one of the methods below. Your athlete will need a completed Athlete Information Form and a current Medical Form.
  2. All medical forms must be updated every 3 years with a doctor's signature, so please allow enough time as it is required before participation.
  3. If your child participated in the past, please check to see if he/she will need a current medical before registration/participation.
  4. Return paperwork by August 24, 2018 by one of the following methods:

Special Olympics Texas would not exist today and could not have been created without the time, energy, and dedication of thousands of volunteers.

Become a Class A Volunteer

Parents, we are in need of your help. Please fill out the Class A Volunteer form to act as chaperones at competitions.

Hurst -Euless-Bedford ISD cares deeply about our athletes, families and volunteers and realizes the need to take precautions to ensure their safety. To provide the best experience possible, potential Class A volunteers are required to complete the following steps:

  • Submit the Class A Volunteer Application.
  • You will then need to View the General Orientation slideshow and submit your responses to the quiz.
  • You will also need to view the Protective Behaviors slideshow, you will submit your responses to the quiz.

All three of those resources are available on the Special Olympics' "Become a Volunteer" webpage.



Special Olympics Letter Jacket Process

    • Athlete must participate in two Special Olympic sports their sophomore year before receiving a jacket.
    • Athletes are measured for a jacket the same time other students are measured for a letter jacket.
    • Athlete will not be eligible for a jacket any earlier than the end of their sophomore year.
    • The District covers the cost of the letter jacket for eligible students.
    • Parents are responsible to pay for patches and cost to put patches on the letter jacket.
    • Athletes may only receive one letter jacket, but they may receive multiple patches for various events.
    • Complete a materials request form to Melissa Mitchell prior to fittings
    • The Special Olympics fundraiser account will be used to pay for letter jackets (865)
