Speaker Discusses Smoking Risks with Central Junior High Students
Posted 01/03/2019 03:34PM

Central Junior High students in Mrs. Gomez's Principles of Human Services class had the privilege of learning about the dangers of drugs and alcohol from one of our community partners, Challenge of Tarrant County. Mrs. Carolyn Johnson-Harris of Challenge of Tarrant County introduced the student's to her "friend" Harry the Hairy Tongue; developing a "hairy" tongue is a consequence of smoking and using tobacco products. Students also handled a physical pair of lungs—one healthy pair and one unhealthy pair—to see the difference between lungs of non-tobacco users and lungs of tobacco users. Students were fully "grossed out" by the consequences of using drugs and alcohol which Mrs. Carolyn Johnson-Harris considers a success!
