Students at Bedford Junior High modeled good scientific experimental practices and engineering design methods by building a "control" version of a solar-powered car. The students then optimized their cars by replacing gears, changing the angle of the solar panel, and adjusting other contributing factors. Students raced their optimized cars against each other to see which design was the best. Building these cars brought up great conversations about solar energy, teamwork, and the engineering design process.
