Making Paper Balloons with Harwood Junior High Engineering Students
Posted 04/03/2018 02:00PM

At Harwood Junior High, Mr. Davis and his Principles of Applied Engineering students built and flew tissue paper hot air balloons. Each balloon had two attempts to fly outside in 35 degree temperatures, and their flight times were averaged for an overall score. During the course of the unit, students investigated several round-the-world balloon flights and the Red Bull Stratos project that broke several world records, including the highest manned-balloon flight and the highest parachute jump.

Students watch as a paper balloon is filled with hot air before launch.
