HEB ISD Students Join City of Hurst's Youth In Government Program
Posted 03/08/2018 09:29AM

The City of Hurst has begun the 2018 Youth In Government program, running through May. This is an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors who are either Hurst residents or attend a school district affiliated with the City of Hurst. Hurst City Council created this program in 2001 as an opportunity for students to explore possible career paths while getting hands on experience in different city departments. They are able to meet local officials, interact with students from other schools, participate in community service projects and make a difference in the community. This year, there are six students from HEB ISD in the program: Mariam Mohamed, Aisha Mahama-Rodriguez, Elizabeth Parrill, Elani Smiley, Lindsay Ross, and Lauren Cuevas. These students are eager to learn more about local government and participate in several volunteer opportunities with our community partners. At the end of the program, at least one scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying student. Their graduation from the program will be at the Hurst City Council meeting on May 8, 2018.
