Letter to HEB ISD Families - October 2, 2020

To all HEB ISD families:

It has come to our attention that students are using personal devices, district educational platforms, and other social media inappropriately. Although these occurrences are currently rare, we are taking immediate action and closing both Google Chat and Google Hangouts today at 4:00 p.m. for HEB ISD student accounts. HEB ISD takes all instances of bullying seriously. These actions are counter to our core values and we will address this behavior directly. Social injustice of any kind has no place in our classrooms or anywhere in our school district. The district expressly prohibits any form of bullying, whether on or off school property.

We ask that if you become aware of an inappropriate message of this nature, please contact your teacher or principal so we may investigate and address the situation. You may also visit www.hebisd.edu/ReportBullying to make an anonymous report. Due to student privacy protections, we likely will not be able to share additional details on the outcomes of individual situations. Be assured that we have instructed all of our HEB ISD staff to follow any consequence guidelines that apply as outlined in our Code of Conduct. Students who engage in bullying will face the maximum disciplinary consequences allowed under the Texas Education Code and HEB ISD Policies.

As one of the most diverse school districts in the nation, HEB ISD has long valued the importance of recognizing and respecting diversity. HEB ISD must be a safe and inclusive environment for all students and staff, and we will continue our work with compassion for the fundamental respect deserved by all students, staff, and members of our community.

Our commitment to you is that we will continue to monitor for and address both individual situations and any potential trends, so we can continue providing a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
