Minor Updates to Return to Learn Protocols

(This message was also emailed to parents & families on Thursday, April 1, 2021)

Throughout the school year, HEB ISD staff have continued to communicate with public health officials about COVID-19 data and best practices. Data from Tarrant County Public Health shows great improvements in our local community with case rates, hospital bed occupancy, and percentage of positive tests all at their lowest levels in several months.

Based on what we’ve learned over the last year, we have taken another look at the components of our Return To Learn plan. With the approval of Tarrant County Public Health officials, we are making minor changes to our Return To Learn protocols:

  • In elementary schools, desk shields will be used during meals when masks are not being worn.
  • Elementary school students will be allowed to use the school’s playground equipment during recess.
  • School nurses will use a symptom decision tree to determine when an ill student may return to campus. Not all symptoms will require a provider’s clearance or a 10-day isolation period.
  • Asymptomatic siblings and household members will not be required to quarantine unless the symptomatic person requires a COVID test or tests positive.
  • If you are ill please contact the campus nurse for guidance on your return to campus.

All students have the option of switching to online learning at any time. If you would like your student to switch to online learning, please contact the front office at your student’s school.
