TVCO Proposal Updated to Allow Return to Same School
(posted 8/18/2021, this message is also being emailed to parents of elementary students)
As a continuous improvement district, we have listened to the concerns shared by parents after our initial announcement of the proposed Temporary Virtual Classroom Option (TVCO). We have changed and clarified the processes for TVCO students’ return to in-person school when the TVCO program would conclude on October 29.
TVCO students who are enrolled in an HEB ISD elementary school this year would be able to return to the same elementary school when the TVCO program concludes.
Students in a Schools of Choice program prior to joining TVCO would be able to return to the Schools of Choice program when TVCO concludes. However, TVCO students’ return to Spanish Immersion would be contingent upon an assessment of their readiness to return to the program, because success in future lessons depends on curriculum covered in-person while the TVCO program was active.
For TVCO students who would be eligible to attend an HEB ISD elementary school for in-person school but are not currently attending, we cannot guarantee placement at a specific HEB ISD school when the TVCO program concludes. If the student is eligible to attend HEB ISD schools, a space would be offered at an HEB ISD school with capacity in the student’s grade level when the TVCO program concludes.
As a reminder, the proposed TVCO program is still under consideration. The HEB ISD Board of Trustees plans to discuss and make a decision at the August 23 board meeting. For more information, visit www.hebisd.edu/TVCO
