HEB ISD to Rebuild Bellaire Elementary at No Additional Cost to Taxpayers
Dear Bellaire Community,
I am pleased to inform you that construction on a brand new Bellaire Elementary School will begin this fall. HEB ISD has worked closely with the City of Hurst on a project that is beneficial to both our City of Hurst Community and our HEB ISD School District. Because of our strong relationship with the City of Hurst, it was agreed that HEB ISD will donate land next to Hurst Community Park in exchange for the City of Hurst providing the land for the expansion of Bellaire Elementary.
The City of Hurst has allowed us to build the new school on a portion of land adjacent to the current location. In order for this project to move forward and allow for instruction to continue for our students, the City of Hurst and HEB ISD have entered into an Interlocal Agreement allowing HEB ISD to build the new school while allowing the City of Hurst to expand and improve a public park.
Both the District and the City of Hurst desire to see new developments in the South Hurst community. A portion of the funding for this project will come from Bond 2018 program funds the District was able to save from previous projects. The remainder will be funded by the District’s Locally Defined Capital Improvements Fund, allowing this project to have zero impact on taxpayers.
For the past seven years, the district has partnered with Huckabee Architects on current elementary building projects and renovations to several of our secondary buildings. This relationship will continue as we move forward to design a building that complements the Bellaire community.
We thank you in advance for your patience and we will continue to communicate our timeline for this project.
